Community Service Initiative (Weekly Report)
Week 1
-
For the first week, we were introduced to a new module that is Community Service Initiative. On that day, we were given the agenda of the whole module. We were firstly introduced to the FUGEE School. It was a school for the refugee to pursue their studies and there are 29,774 refugee children in Malaysia. Next, we were showed the course outline, the assignments, the assessments and the marking rubrics from the Module Information Booklet. We were also required to choose a group between shoe painting and IT-support. The students in the group are required to assist the refugee students in both section following the student’s capabilities. Lastly, the students are required to identify the leaders and the sub-committee members for the programme, food and resources.

The things that I’ve gained from the first week of the class is the importance of the FUGEE School. Lastly, I’ve learned a better way of choosing the activity that I will do during the whole module.
Week 2
-
On week 2, there is a forum info sharing by the guest speaker, Ms. Deborah Henry. She is the founder of FUGEE School. She have a good intention to the refugee students by providing them a good education so that they can know their future pathway. Next, after the speaker have made her talks, there is a sharing of experiences session by the invited FUGEE students. Although they have just learned the way of communicating and interacting, their way of presenting the experiences is good and excellent.

Besides that, there is a briefing conducted by the Student Leaders. In the briefing, they discussed about the group discussion and planning of the projects that will be conducted in next week and the following weeks. After the briefing finished, we are required to do a presentations of the proposals for feedback and fine-tuning evaluation.

The things that I’ve gained from the second week is that how education is important in our life so that we can continue our life with it. Lastly, I’ve learned the way to work in group in a better and efficient way.
Week 3

Next, in week 3, the FUGEE students visit Taylor’s University. We have shared a light lunch with them so that they will feel appreciated when come to the university. This made me realized that we should not just think about ourselves when we want to do something.

Following, we having an ice breaking session with the FUGEE students. It was fun and made me understood that we should have a foreigner friends too. They all very friendly and it is easy to interact with them.

After that, the lecturer assigned the mentee and mentor as this will be the duty for the mentor throughout the course. My mentee name is Ahmed and I have been worked my partner, Taranee Puteri. We three having a good chat so that we can be comfortable with each other.

Lastly, in week 2, there was a demonstration of shoe-painting by Mdm. Rose from Penang. The outcome from it were very beautiful and make me having interest on it but I am not that creative to do it.

Week 4

In week 4, the mentors and mentee for the IT-support group worked together to complete the tasks given. Firstly we were taken to the IT lab at C7.07 then me and my partner identified what the mentee wants so that it can ease the job that will be done. This is what we called a teamwork and it is important to success.

Next the mentors teach the mentee in using Microsoft Office and Microsoft Power Point but firstly the mentors asked the mentee what they know about it. This showed not only teamwork occurs but the mentors availability and knowledge about the Microsoft Software will be needed in teaching the mentee.

Lastly, we required to design a simple poster on that week as a practice not just for the mentee, but also for the mentors as for me, we as the mentors also sometimes do not how to use the software.
Week 5

In week 5, we were doing the same things as last week that is the group projects but what is different in this week, the mentors, me and Taranee assisted our mentee, Ahmed in doing a real poster based in a real product. Me and my partners not only assist our own mentee but also our friends mentee as we help each other to complete the task given to us.

As last week, the mentors used the same method as last week in assisting our mentee but this time in more details because we have to complete it in a nice way and the most attractive way as we can. This will not just improve our mentee knowledge in using the software, but also increasing the mentors knowledge.

Lastly, we have not managed to done the posters in that week because we were short of time and besides that, we also have another one week to fully complete the poster. So there no need to be rush in doing it but before we end the class, we will have to put our half-done work in a USB drives that is given to us in the beginning of the class then past it back to Nadia Irina. It was a fun week because we faced the challenges together with our mentee and shared the problems together.

Week 6
-
Next, during our week 6 in the semester, we were required to finish up our poster in the most creative way but in this part, I mostly take the idea from my partner because she is more creative than me. This enhanced more the creativity of the poster and from my side and our mentee, we both feels that my partner, Taranee is artistic.

The final creation of our poster I think have the most beautiful and creative way of presenting the product that we will need to sell. We were having a lot of fun in doing the poster because our mentee, Ahmed loved to disturb my partner, Taranee.

Lastly, after the end of the class, we firstly required to hand in our final poster and presentation to Nadia again like last week. After that, we were taking pictures with our mentee and some other mentees as for memories after what we have done together for the past few weeks and me and my partner wishing our mentee good luck for the next week activities.
Week 7
-
In the last week of the classes, our mentee are required to do a presentations about the posters and slides on the marketing plan that they have made with their mentors from the last few weeks. But with the guidance from their own mentors. They all were fully confident with themselves not like me, sometimes I felt so nervous when comes into doing presentations.

Following, after all of the mentees have made their presentations, we all waited for the results to come out for who is the top 3 and the feedback came from of course Ms. Deborah Henry, chief judge and Mr. Kneath, principal of FUGEE school. They all were very professional in doing works and not choosy in picking the top 3.

Lastly, after a few moments, the results has been finalized. I actually did not focus on the other winners because I am just focusing to my mentee, Ahmed but before the top 3 were commencing, all of the other mentees that did not managed to get the top 3 were given prizes as well so that they feels respected. After that, the top 3 comes and my mentee managed to get second place. Me and my partner were very proud of him and we thanks and congrats him for being so successful in doing the presentations and then a goodbye session is started.
